Don’t Call It A Comeback! Magazines Advertising On The Rise…

US Magazine Trends in last 12 years

US Magazine Trends in last 12 years

Here at The Real Estate Book in Rhode Island, we have seen it all. The good times, the bad times, and the occasionally, really frustrating times. Needless to say Real Estate brokers & agents, Mortgage Companies,  and Media types like ourselves have endured a tough stretch over the last three years. These tough times have not yet ended, however lately we have seen an upswing in request for advertising from real estate agents in Rhode Island planning their budgets for 2010. For us now is the time to decide to go forward with a positive outlook, inspire ourselves & our clients, and to show why the direct print advertising portion of our business is continue to drive business in the real estate community.

There are times I question the future what we do, and there are others like today that I evidence from experienced media managers that everything we do is right. I was reading a post on DigitalTonto, a well regarded company, successful in online & offline marketing strategies. The article, http://www.digitaltonto.com/2010/why-magazine-publishers-are-set-to-make-a-comeback/ , assessed the future of magazines like ourselves. I came a way with a few points of why I feel we as a company are pointed in the right direction, and why I truly believe that our approach to marketing is THE best way REALTORS can invest in themselves and reap the benefit of their advertising.

Greg Satell of DigitalTonto, points out that magazines like The Real Estate Book, do several things right in today’s marketplace. I found a few to be particularly true with us:

  • Audience: “Magazines offer a discrete audience.  There is no other media where you can be so sure of whom you’re reaching and why.”  The Real Estate Book is available at locations all around you, and is picked by consumers interested in looking at real estate. This is a perfect direct & interested audience.
  • Shelf Life: “Magazine ads don’t whizz by.  In fact, they stick around for a while.” Studies at The Real Estate Book show our advertisers calls build over a 90 day period from when each magazine is printed. This creates a great sales funnel for all our clients.
  • Keeping Up With The Digital Age: Greg points out that the magazines that will succeed the most are the ones who acccompany their printed magazine with well grown websites to not only enhance their currents readers experience, but not attract new customers. He explain that in most brands less than 50% of the web site users are not also magazine users (low duplication rate). We have done this! Our main site RealEstateBook.com has become a nationwide leader in homes for sale and continues to attract new consumers looking for property in Rhode Island.

Greg finishes with “Magazines hold their fate in their own hands.  The greatest peril lies not from a “great digital threat” lurking in the shadows, but from missed opportunity.  It’s time magazine publishers stopped whining and started building new skills.” I know that our team at The Real Estate Book have taken our magazines in Rhode Island & Massachusetts continued to improve our print offering, and work tirelessly to educate ourselves and clients on how the marriage of print & online advertising will work now and in the future.
