High Point University is now home to a new iPhone app

iphoneHigh Point University now home to a new iPhone app! Who knew! Kyle Webster, adjunct art professor at High Point University, has recently created a white-hot application for the iPhone – “White Lines.”

Webster, who previously worked illustrating for clients such as The New Yorker, Time Magazine, Nike, Hanes and The Wall Street Journal, came to HPU in 2009 to teach a Digital Art & Design class while also dabbling in the graphic design business of gaming. The result was an iPhone application that is not only an enticing and addictive diversion; it may be a memory-enhancing tool.

White Lines is a simple game in which players must redraw sequences of lines on the screen in the same order and direction as they appeared. The game begins with randomly generated patterns of two lines. Then, as players master 15 sequences on one level, they advance to the next. The sequences get more challenging as players progress to the 9th and final level of 10 lines.

Webster, the creator of the game, theorizes that the later stages of the game (four lines and up) will stimulate the parts of the brain that are used for short-term recall because the core game model uses four basic elements required for such stimulation: concentration, repetition, pattern building, and information absorption.
“In order to make this game stand out, I wanted to accomplish two things: design the most graphically minimalistic game that delivers satisfying and engaging game-play and design a game that provides downtime that is useful and stimulating, rather than empty and nonproductive – hence, the memory exercise component.”

After one week in the iTunes store, the game was featured by Apple editors on the homepage and it soared into the top 20 games. It remains in the top 50 and Webster is doing everything he can to keep the momentum going, including interviews, special promotions, and giveaways.

White Lines costs 99 cents and is available exclusively through the App Store in the Games category. For more information, go to http://whitelinesgame.com

NOTE: Another really great iPhone app for the real estate minded is one by Realtor.com.
Once this app is downloaded to your iPhone you can generate homes for sale around your current GPS location for FREE…..how cool is that?
