Get ready for Valentine’s Day this Sunday, February 14th

Sweet Hearts

Sweet Hearts

Valentine’s Day is an annual holiday held on February 14 and is named after one or more early Christian martyrs. It is traditionally a day on which lovers express their love for each other by gifting candy, flowers, gifts, cards (known as “valentines”) and maybe jewelry. The holiday first became associated with romantic love the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer n the Middle Ages, when the tradition of courtly love flourished.

The sending of Valentines was a fashion in nineteenth-century Great Britain, and, in 1847, Esther Howland developed a successful business in her Worcester, Massachusetts home with hand-made Valentine cards based on British models. The popularity of Valentine cards in 19th century America, where many Valentine cards are now general greeting cards rather than declarations of love, was a harbinger of the future commercialization of holidays.

The U.S. Greeting Card Association estimates that approximately one billion valentines are sent each year worldwide, making the day the second largest card-sending holiday of the year, behind Christmas. The association estimates that, in the U.S., men spend on average twice as much money as women…lucky us!

A few places shop locally in the High Point area for Valentine’s Day gifts include: Avanti Salon and Day Spa; Ellington’s Florist & Greenhouse; Simon’s Jewelers. Or even catch a Valentine’s Day dinner at Blue Water Grille.

  1. Hi, possibly i’m being a bit off topic here, but I was browsing your site and it looks fine. I’m writing a blog and trying to make it look neat, but everytime I touch it I mess something up. Did you design the blog yourself? Could someone with little experience do it, and add updates without messing it up? Anyways, good information on here, very solid.

  2. Hi, this blog is partly designed by a blog designer, not a lot really designed, just the header across the top and the frame work ie sidebars, main body, etc. which is all pretty basic for any blog. They also did some widgets which they wanted in the blog ie those with The Real Estate Book online property and agent searches. Other than that all the other content and look is what I have decided I wanted the blog to contain and the general look. Wordpress is blogging tool we are using here and it is much more detailed than other blogs I do on Blogger…almost like a mini website and it was initially a bit harder for me to figure where stuff landed and what it was going to look like, it was a bit of trial and error in the beginning! After you get the blog set up, I think that someone that was average to above average on a computer could post without messing it up. Setting up the blog to have it right did take time and would not be for those that were not good with computers, online, programs, etc.
    Hope this was helpful!
